"HOW ABOUT YOU TAKING A TURN DYLAN," SAID CAPT. CAT

DYLAN THOMAS and CAPT. CAT
Bill Tew
The proximity of Dylan's birthplace to my home persuaded me to visit the Swansea Marina where there is a bronze statue of Dylan Thomas. I painted this picture including Dylan's character, Capt. Cat.

First Voice
Who pulls the townhall bellrope but blind Captain Cat? One by one, the sleepers are rung out of sleep this one morning as every morning. And soon you shall see
the chimneys' slow upflying snow as Captain Cat, in sailor's cap and seaboots, announces to-day with his loud get-out-of-bed bell.

DYLAN THOMAS'S BOATHOUSE
Bill Tew
The artist has captured the isolation of sky, seascape and solitude of the poet's home, the inspiration for Dylan's work.

THE WRITING SHED
Bill Tew
Fascinated by the way the poet escaped into his own world, Bill visited the beautifully restored Writing Shed. For a few moments he 'saw' the poet at work.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

BILL and FREDA TEW
BILL TEW
William G Tew was born in the small village of Gorseinon, not far from Dylan Thomas's childhood home in Swansea. The early artistic talent he showed as a child was encouraged in grammar school. After school he became a telephone engineer and also sailed successfully for Wales and Great Britain in yacht racing. Then, encouraged by his wife he attended college for courses in art, ceram
ics, sculpture and stained glass. His first love is watercolour, then life drawing, landscapes and still life. Now retired, he and his artist wife spend any free time they have travelling to as many parts of the world as possible (Spending the kids' inheritance, as Bill puts it.)
